The project Lak
Daruwo specialises in the sponsoring of children which helps children
and their families break out of poverty, receive nutritional meals,
have access to better health care and basic education. They have also
played a major role in moblizing the community in the area that we work
in.
Children are taken care of from a very
early age – nutritional meals, medical attention with access to
Professional doctors and a medical unit that monitors their health,
growth and overall wellbeing are part of the benefits.
Direct
assistance is provided with the provision of school fees, school books,
shoes, bags, stationery and underwear. Those who drop out of the
educational system are given non-formal education at the Morning Star
School run by CCS. The Tuition programme is available to help the
children with their homework and additional assistance in their
education.
Lak Daruwo was instrumental in
the Micro Enterprise programme which flourished through the formulation
of Self Help Groups. The mobilization of the community when at its
peak had 60 groups which included 3 men’s groups. There were 11 zonal
groups through which the Micro Enterprise Development (MED) projects
and loans were distributed. This helped to empower and mobilize the
community in new and innovative ways.
Through
the Self Help Groups they were able to go on field trips and
excursions. The majority of this community would never had this
opportunity before.
